Our approach

Upwelling is an oceanographic phenomenon that involves wind-driven motion of dense and usually nutrient-rich water towards the ocean surface, replacing the usually nutrient-depleted surface water.
Once at the surface, these nutrients are used by phytoplankton, along with dissolved carbon dioxide and solar energy, to produce organic compounds through photosynthesis.
Upwelling therefore creates very high levels of primary production and activity. They support biodiversity, strengthen ecosystems and enable high productivity.
As it happens at the ocean, Upwelling draws on creativity, humanities, design, technology and people-centered innovation as key “nutrients” to create viable, innovative and meaningful business ecosystems.

Our method

At Upwelling we are committed to work with a human-centered approach.

We use design and creativity to integrate people needs, technology possibilities and business requirements.

It is a process focused on passion and creativity. It draws on our ability to be intuitive, to recognize patterns, and to express ourselves through means that go beyond words.

At Upwelling we approach innovation as an ecosystem of five different intertwined spaces.

Immersion

The act of fully submerging ourselves in a specific environment. It is a key space from which to understand and comprehend both the nature and complexity of the problem at hand. Skills such as empathy and detachment are essential in this ecosystem.

Inspiration

It is a space where we seek the anecdotal, the different and the unique. To make the most of this space, the ability to be surprised by facts we already know is crucial, as is transforming things we are familiar with into unexpected ones.

Ideation

The process of generating, developing and testing ideas. It is the space where we diverge and use both individual and collective creativity to generate the maximum number of proposals and ideas.

Development

The deliberate use of creativity and iteration for problem solving. It is the ecosystem space where we converge and bring ideas to life.

Implementation

The space where problems are solved in a tangible, reliable and meaningful way.
