Upwelling solutions

Together with our clients we explore, imagine and design new organizations, brands, products, services and experiences.

These are our solutions and tools…

01. Qualitative Research

Research techniques and tools at the service of innovation and design.

We help design teams to seek inspiration to launch new products and services, management teams to search for new business opportunities, marketing teams looking for new ideas and unique and relevant stories, and scientific teams to search for new products and service(s) usages and applications. Whatever the reason, we put our passion, experience and creativity to work for you.

At Upwelling we join anthropologists, psychologists, philosophers, scientists, artists and designers to generate new ideas and identify unmet needs.

01.1 - Ethnography

We use immersion and contextual observation to identify not only what people say but what they actually do.

We use that deep understanding of human behavior as the basis for designing innovative products and services.

Our tools, specifically designed for each project – from creative exercises to digital tools – allow us to apply a new approach to user research. It also helps our clients to devise and develop new concepts, products and services.

01.3 - Interviews

This technique is particularly useful when researching themes such as certain health issues, financial areas or body care, which by their nature are sensitive and are more difficult to address when working in a group.

01.4 - Online Communities

We apply our digital and social expertise at Upwelling Community, through our platform to interact with users.

It is an excellent tool to iterate and develop concepts and ideas, as our, carefully recruited participants, are available for interaction for serveral time periods (days, weeks or months).

01.5 - Remote Research

Research is essential to understand the “what” and “how” of a research problem.

Doing it remotely has an enormous potential, as it gives us the opportunity to reach people all around the world.

We have experience in implementing and executing remote research projects worldwide.

01.6 - Semiotic Analysis

We seek to understand the meaning of signs and symbols that dominate cultures – including brand communications, packaging and other media.

Semiotics is vital to understand the meaning behind the brand, and how it fits within a certain cultural context.

It ensures business growth, brand visibility and the greatest possible impact on its market sector.

At Upwelling we help organizations create products that enhance people lives.

03.1 - Concept Ideation

The creative process to generate, develop and communicate new ideas, where ideas are seen as basic elements of thought. They can be visual, concrete or abstract and this phase covers all stages (of a cycle of thought), from conceptualization to (its) realization.

03.2 - Sketching

It helps us to convey ideas, demonstrate the functionality of a product and see the interaction with people. The role of this technique varies depending on the end product being created, the size and scope of the project, the experience and workflow, and customer expectations.

03.3 - Prototyping

It is used to quickly test quantitatively and qualitatively the market response to a product or a specific functionality.

03.5 - Testing

It helps us to assess the feasibility of a design. Will it succeed as a commercial product? Is the real use of the product as we had imagined? Is it intuitive ?. This approach also allows us to identify potential failures and thus improve the final version of the product before its launching.

03.6 - Product Positioning

We help organizations create different, unique and relevant products. We use people-centered innovation and creativity to design products based on the needs and desires of people (and) thus ensuring natural and effective market positioning.

At its core, the business design is the integration of user empathy, design experience and business strategy.
